There are lots of ‘rules’ about how much money should be spent on an engagement ring. Two month’s salary? Half a year’s salary? More (gulp!)? But all that really matters is that you find the right ring for you. One that reflects your personal style and that you’ll be happy wearing for years to come.
But what if money was no object? Let’s take a look…purely for research…at some of the world’s most eye-watering price tags for engagement rings.
Self-confessed jewellery junkie, Elizabeth Taylor, was the owner of one the most expensive engagement rings in the world. This jaw-dropping Asscher cut diamond weighs in at 33.19-carats and is reported to be colourless and have almost faultless clarity.
It was privately auctioned following her passing for over 8.8 million dollars – 6.71 million pounds – and is now owned by an anonymous collector. Wow, lucky them!
Another beauty with a value to set your heart racing is this $5 million (£3.91m) flawless, 18-carat diamond. Octagon cut and set in platinum, this stone radiates from Beyoncé’s finger. Lucky lady.
Always the fiancé, never the bride! Not that with a growing collection of rings like this we think Paris will be overly concerned.
Until recently she was the owner of this stunning 24-carat diamond solitaire which ranks as another of the world’s most expensive engagement rings - coming in at $4.7 million (£3.59m).
Sadly, the engagement didn’t last but Paris sold the ring at auction to support people affected by Hurricane Katrina – good on you Paris.
Years since it was crafted by renowned French jeweller, Cartier, this ring owned by Grace Kelly still takes your breath away. Presented to her by Prince Rainier of Monaco it is a beautiful 10.47-carat, emerald cut diamond flanked by two large baguette diamonds and is worth an estimated 4.06 million dollars (£3.1m).
But not all the world’s most expensive engagement diamond rings adorn the fingers of celebrities...
Take this show stopping 59.60-carat pink diamond. It is the largest flawless fancy vivid diamond ever graded by the GIA (Gemological Institute of America) and became the most expensive ring in the world - and the most valuable gemstone ever sold at auction - when it was bagged at Sotheby's Hong Kong in April 2017 for $71.2 million. That’s a cool 54.3 million British pounds.
The former record-holder was this 14.62-carat emerald-cut, vivid blue diamond titled The Oppenheimer Blue.
Sold for $57.7 (£43.6m), the indigo-coloured stone was named after Sir Philip Oppenheimer, a member of one of the world’s most influential and powerful diamond families, who gifted the ring to his wife.
